What’s your budget? I found a local tailor and am gradually stocking up on bespoke shirts and jackets. The shirts really aren’t much more expensive than something from Express or similar stores ($110 for my last bespoke shirt).
Tailor comes to my home, takes my measurements, we go through a catalog of fabrics and buttons, then she drops off the items about a month later.
Madison, Wisconsin. I go through Samantha at Fine Line Custom Attire.
She’ll do the initial measurements, then you can try on the finished product and get one round of free alterations if adjustments need to be made.
Prices have been around $110 - $140 per shirt and $600ish for sport jackets. The one full suit I bought so far was about $950, if I’m remembering correctly.
I have had Charles Tyrwhitt and Proper Cloth, would recommend both
Pro
I stand by Charles Tyrwhitt
Agreed. Tough to beat for the price and fit variations.
BB is not an upgrade
Propercloth
I stick to mizzen + main
I was hardcore brooks for years but recently switched to CT. They are my go to, and I am an athletic build.
Seconded for Charles Tyrwhitt. I've worn their dress shirts for years. Recent visit to NYC I hit up their store and tried on practically every shirt there to make sure I had the right fit in a variety of their styles. Spent way too much money but ended up with some lovely shirts.
I also like Robert Graham for "special occasions"
Did you get the Milano fit with custom sleeve lengths? Own like 10 of them, no issues. For other brands, Mizzen+Main
I got the regent! Milano was way too tight (athletic male) standard size but those things squeezed me haha
Ive had a lot of durability issues with BB. Also the fit styles they offer arent great
I like my Kamakura shirts.
I like suit supply shirts for the fit
Chief
Very much depends on body type. Most fit my frame way too big so I like Calvin Klein slim fit Steel +. Non wrinkle and fits like it was custom made for me.
I really like Brooks Brothers- ton of shirts that last- I see BB as Good utility shirts for every day. When I want or need something nicer, I like Eton available at Nordstrom.
Proper Cloth
If you do any place else, you’ll have to take it to a tailor to fit the shirt to your body.
BB ain’t the same quality anymore
I used to prefer Bonobos - esp considering the range of fits they had. Haven’t bought stuff in a year or so though
I like proper cloth and Charles thyrwitt for basic stuff. Isaia and Etro are my favorites when I want to spend more money. BB is just too big for me—but then again, it depends on your build.
Suit supply is good. Eton is worth a try too
Suitsupply vs proper cloth? Has anyone tried both?
