How small is the Venn Diagram slice of people that want to buy ferragamo ties AND work at IBM?
Surprisingly enough depending on the practice... some exude style preferences more than others, especially in the hyper growth areas..
Although for your cute diagram probably a solid 1% 👍
LMAO Savage.
Down to ~10% of men wearing ties to work: lawyers, bankers, Federal government.
If these are your clients, keep in mind the old Wall Street joke:
New Analyst wears an Hermès tie to a meeting in an MD’s office.
MD says,”young man, please come over here.”
Analyst walks over to the desk, where the MD takes a pair of scissors, cuts off his tie, and tosses him a $100 bill, saying,”now go buy 5 Analyst ties”
Sometimes Hermès/Ferragamo is the wrong thing to wear
A) you’re not at a BB (reference: DB is no BB)
B) you’re not MD
C) if you know, you know
D) if you have to ask
E) you’re all the above
I don’t know much about ties but I looked both up and they look great.
I think you should wear what you want to wear and wear that confidently. It’s your style and there’s nothing more beautiful than being comfortable being you. Haters will hate no matter what you decide, so decide to be you.
EY1: I’m not suggesting that everyone should slavishly comply with tribal fashion norms, just that you should practice situational awareness. If you decide to flip off the norms, do it with a consciously awareness that there may be a price to pay
Never owned a Hermès tie but I have two ferragamo ties. I love them and they’re great quality, but I almost never wear them due to the same concerns you have. I’d highly recommend Drake’s ties. I’d say the quality is about the same but they’re not nearly as flashy and most people don’t know what they are.
I love buying ties but I tend to wear them maybe thrice a year. So buy few but distinctive ones. Floral motifs are a bit old fashioned. I like Thomas Pink ties. Suit supply has a good range of well-priced ties too
Just get a bvlgari tie and no one will know what it is.
I have ties from both brands and will say the Hermes silk is much better. You can feel the difference when you tie it.
Also why Hermes ties are never on sale.
