Mom's in this bowl - get your girls in sports and gymnastics! This year, black women won 42% of the women's Olympic medals for Team USA. Even with Simone taking more than most people, I think it's so important to show young black girls that they can dominate in any sport they want to. Did you play any sports as a kid? Did you feel encouraged to keep pursuing it as you got older, or to take it seriously?

I loved softball as a girl but I was not encouraged to continue it as I got older. After middle school, it was looked at as a distraction from academics. I wish I had kept it up honestly, I would totally join a low-key rec team if I could find a local one!
I played Soccer, Volleyball and ran Track. Went to college on a full track scholarship. Encourage your daughters to try a few if finances will allow and hone in on what they both like and are good at. Unfortunately, soccer was my love but my parents pushed me to run track. I didn’t have the option to choose. By the time I got to college, I had already peaked and was highly injury prone. I developed a hate for the sport because my parents were overbearing. I now live in a state of what could’ve been any time I watch a soccer match or a track meet.
