Is there a reason some of the biglaw websites look like they were made in 2006? Surely that reflects poorly on a company

That’s because they probably were. And partners can’t work Outlook for iOS, how will you convince them a sleek website is 1000x better than LinkedIn cringe

I’m surprised they can’t bothered with some basic Wix template or that their marketing departments (if they have one) are that incompetent

How much work do you think having a website is bringing in to a Biglaw firm? All of my clients are large businesses whose people have relationships with partners already. BigLaw clients aren't out there googling "M&A attorney" or "class-action defense attorney" and picking their firm based on the website. I'd wager that less than 5% of my clients have ever visited our website for any reason.

Fair enough. But I'm sure the reasoning is still the same. It would be money spent on something that has no return. Again, I've never heard how pretty a firm's website is play into what firm someone is going to.

Anybody have experience with adjournment requests in the 1st Dept App Division? We have a respondent’s brief due a week from Wednesday. This past we submitted an application for adjournment. I’ve convinced my partner that we have good cause (record issues that need a motion to resolve) but now I’m starting to get worried. Are adjournments usually granted?

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

Have opportunity to work in my firm’s London satellite office for about a year and a half, and then come back to NY headquarters. In good standing with firm and have M&A and capital markets experience. Did not start traveling abroad until my bar trip (did not grow up with the money for trips like that) and think it would be a good personal and professional experience. Any thoughts / advice?

I’m a first year associate (almost second year). I work at a national firm and I’m not a litigator. When I started with the firm, I was told I could work out of any office. Long story short, I regret choosing the office that I chose. I’d like to transfer to another office - is that a difficult ask? I’m licensed in the state I’d like to transfer to. I don’t know how to make this request.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I joined a vault 100 firm in September last year. The firm put me on tier 7. In January I had the associate review and everything was normal. After a couple of weeks, I got the call from the hiring partner telling my bonus and new salary (because of the firm-wide salary increase). I realized I still get paid as a 7 year associate. The partner said because I joined the firm later in the year, it’s normal not to advance in the next year. Is it? Thanks!
