How do you win back a partner’s trust after making careless errors (e.g., misstating case law)

Time, and improved performance.

It's also important to admit you made a mistake. If you try to deny it when confronted, you'll do a lot more damage.

like

Yup, I apologized and said I would be more careful in the future.

Time and quality work. If you had the partner’s respect before it won’t take long.

like

I hope so, thanks!

Agree with P1. Memories are typically short. If you do good work normally and made a mistake, the partner will not (or should not) dwell on it.

like

Thank you, this gives me hope!

Did you strategically misstate it

So dumb. Mistakes happen. You were running on little sleep and billing 350 is gross. Sounds like the partner should be concerned about obvious work quality/performance issues when grinding associates. You care a lot and will recover.

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.

I’ll go first- I’ll tell myself to not overshare, especially to the manager. People will generally make an image of you and judge you on basis of that even if you have changed a lot.

I just left a very toxic work place.
The crazy thing is they were just named the best local municipality to work for. It's upsetting. They advertise a "culture" but don'tapply it. It felt like a used car sales pitch, I was sold a dream but given junk. I am constantly replaying moments. I have read so many books and everything leads to they were the problem. How do I recover from this?

Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

Is it actually safe for my manager to ask me to drive my truck in the winter? I normally wouldn't mind since I've done it before, but this particular guy just told me to "drive slow" instead of providing me with the necessary safety measures to avoid accidents.
