My background check is delayed, so I asked to push back my start date. Now I'm stressed that they'll keep recruiting and pick someone else who can start immediately. Does this actually happen?

Generally speaking, no. It has not been my experience that they pull an offer due to a delayed background check. That is actually pretty common.

I have never rescinded an offer because a background check delay. It’s not your fault that it’s delayed and the company knows that. Some states right now are encountering delays, and if the company you accepted a job with is using another company to run their background checks, they get updates on which states are lagging on returning information.

I had the same thing happen last year. My start got pushed back two weeks because of the background check vendor. I was convinced they’d ghost me, but HR just rolled with it. Usually, if they liked you enough to hire you, they’ll wait.

It can happen, but rarely. Most companies have committed to you already. The delay is their admin problem, not a reason to replace you. Just keep communicating clearly.

Hi fishes, I'm currently serving notice period and one of my future offers is in background verification stage. They asked for my LWD but I'm currently negotiating with my current employer for early release. So does the LWD of my current employer i give in bgv lead to red flag? Because the actual date of relieving might be earlier than what i mentioned in bgv. (The difference might be just 15-20 days) Tata Consultancy Infosys Mindtree Capgemini Tech Mahindra
