Wow, it's crazy that you post this because I'm dealing with the exact same thing. It's hard because my husband keeps asking me to help him apply for jobs, but I already have a full-time job. I want to be there and support him, but applying for a job is a ton of work and I don't understand what he's doing all day that he needs me to come home and spend several hours helping him...
I am sorry to hear that. I know how hard it is to be laid off, I was laid off during Covid. I would suggest having him get his resume together and start applying. The job market is rough so the sooner the better.
It can be difficult to be laid off, as I learned myself a few years ago. But the emotional part of it is really just something everyone has to overcome on their own. It's good of you to be thinking of the emotional support aspect, but millions of people are able to handle it and I'm sure your husband will also. What you're doing is actually more important, keeping your job and providing stability, not to mention keeping the lights on, counts for a lot. There's something to be said for the practical approach.
I’m really sorry you’re both going through this. When my sister’s partner was laid off, she just started doing small kind things like: packing his lunch, sending a funny meme because she didn’t have much energy, but wanted him to feel cared for. What’s one tiny gesture you could do that might brighten his day?
I'm really sorry to hear it. I lost my job three years ago and was in a depressive funk for months until I was able to land a new one. I don't think there's a whole lot you can do other than continue to work and be there to support him as much as you can. I'm sure he's hurting, but I'm guessing he also knows that you've got a lot on your plate as well and doesn't expect 24/7 handholding from you.
