My one suit that fits me now (I’ve gained weight since beginning practice 4 years ago) ripped this week. I have an in person evidentiary hearing on Wednesday and need to find a suit on short notice (so doubt the place has the time needed to alter based on my measurements?). I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.

I am a mid level litigation associate at a midsized firm in NYC, which means working big law hrs, without big law pay. My hesitation going to big law is getting substantially less control/responsibility over cases I handle and the fact that most mid levels I know are running from big law rather than towards it. What is your understanding of the norms around whose names end up on a brief/complaint/motion papers etc.? I’m a midlevel at an AmLaw 20 firm and have twice been the principal drafter of something only to be cut from the signature block. The associate senior to me is on it despite having done far less of the work. And it’s not because it required a rewrite or something. The filed product is 80-90% my work. Am I wrong to be pissed off about this?

4th year V20 corp associate looking to switch into litigation (hopefully at a V50) and don’t mind starting over as first/second year. I know it’s an unusual switch and would appreciate any thoughts/advice/predictions re success of switching. For context I went to a decent law school and got decent grades (great 1L mediocre 2/3L).

Why do people “certify the question” during depos - this one guy says it after every instruction not to answer. From his tone it’s not to “mark” the section of the transcript for him later. Isn’t this an old school thing - like pre computers?

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?
