My one suit that fits me now (I’ve gained weight since beginning practice 4 years ago) ripped this week. I have an in person evidentiary hearing on Wednesday and need to find a suit on short notice (so doubt the place has the time needed to alter based on my measurements?). Any suggestions for where to buy a reasonably priced but decent suit on short notice? Ive only ever bought suits from Nordstrom during their big sale every year.

Can’t speak to women’s clothing, but Banana Republic has men’s suit separates that are fine and are on sale this weekend. (They might also have the same for women I don’t know.)

Thank you! Found a great suit for a great price with that sale!

If you’ve got a Macy’s nearby, they’ve got some decent and reasonably priced options.

like

Yeah Macy’s will do in a pinch. It doesn’t have to be a great suit you’ll invest in, you just need something to workf for this week.

Can’t speak from personal experience, but I’ve heard from multiple people that they really like suit supply & it’s reasonably priced. I’m sure they have some sort of rush fee that you can pay if you have to get it tailored in a tight timeframe.

There may be better options, but I would Amazon prime it. You might not get the best quality, but it will get you by. I have so much trouble going into stores in-person because they never have things in stock, or they have the pants but not the jacket or vice versa.

Macys. I used to go to Express but RIP ☹️

Nordstrom Rack is solid in a crunch. (You can also get free tailoring of the suit at a later date)

If you’ve gained weight to a certain size (beyond 12/14) you’ll find it difficult to get a suit at Macy’s or Nordstrom. There are sometimes separates at size 16, but designers often stop at 14. I’d check out Lane Bryant… won’t be stylish but might be more likely to fit without tailoring.

Suitsupply is between 600-1000 for a suit off the rack, and the quality is very solid at that price point. That said, unless you forego tailoring, it might be hard to walk out with something that fits on short notice. I think all the pants need to be hemmed, but you might be able to pin them up.

Nordstrom has a decent selection, but I doubt you’ll get the same quality at the same price range unless there’s a sale. Most of the similarly priced suits at Nordstrom will be fused, whereas Suit Supply is either half or full canvased. The fit should also be more consistent at Suit Supply (since it’s manufacturing the same suit just different colors/materials), whereas the fit will change across the different brands at Nordstrom. Plus, Suit Supply sells jackets and pants as separates, which can be really nice for getting the right fit.

I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.

I am a mid level litigation associate at a midsized firm in NYC, which means working big law hrs, without big law pay. My hesitation going to big law is getting substantially less control/responsibility over cases I handle and the fact that most mid levels I know are running from big law rather than towards it. Any insight and/or suggestions are welcome.
