My previous manager and I had some friction before I left - nothing major, but definitely awkward. I really need their reference, though, since they know my work best. Should I reach out even though it feels uncomfortable? Anyone been in this situation?

I don’t know why you’d have to reach out at all. I think it’s just assumed that a former manager would be a reference. Legally, they can’t say that they had friction with you. They can only say that you’re eligible to be rehired or not. Point blank.

Reach out. The worst they can say is no. If they do refuse to be a reference for you, do you have another manager or a coworker you can ask?

I would reach out and ask if they would mind being a reference. You'd be surprised how often people's ego can rewrite history and they probably feel special that you want their good opinion. I would appeal to that ego during my request.

Since they’re the ones that worked with you most recently, they should be professional enough to put their feelings aside. But reach out to them first as a heads up.

So, the CDC removed the Covid guidelines. I’ve never had Covid. I’m afraid people will come into work not wearing a mask and be inconsiderate… ughhh so distracting and disgusting. I’m also at risk to develop complications. Not sure if I should talk to HR. Not even sure if I should ask for accommodations to continue being able to wfh at least most days of the week to reduce risk. Idkkkk 😩This is so unprecedented. I always wear my mask at work. I am product designer with a fair amount of experience (6yrs).

Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately, the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

I am also in the advanced stages of some lead designer positions in other companies.

However, I am really interested in joining the team at Booking, especially because of the design culture.

What should be my reasons to accept or not accept the offer from booking?
