Do you know anyone at any of the competitors? You could talk to them and see if they need anyone. Other than a referral, there's not much else you can do, it's really going to be on the shoulders of your friend. I hope they find something soon.

Other than providing a referral, be there for him emotionally. He's probably stressed out about the situation and could use a friend to lean on. Help him search for other jobs and send opportunities his way.

Well, you don't really have any control over their job finding process, so the best you can do is just keep supporting them emotionally through everything.
If your friend needs help with his job search, offer to help him with his resume, cover letter or interview skills. You can also help him network with people in his field. Connect him with someone.
