How sad! It sounds like you are doing a great job showing support for this student and the family. The meal train is so helpful! And the student will be glad for the card from his classmates. One gift I really appreciated when I lost my dad was the gift of a tree. I planted it my yard in memory of my dad. Not sure that it is possible in your area, but I love sitting near Dad’s tree and seeing it grow- a live reminder of him.

This is such a good idea. I think it would be comforting to a child to have such a gift.
You could, in a quiet moment, away from other kids, just mention that grief hits people different ways at different times, and if they ever need someone to talk to, you are there for them. Or if they need to take a break, you understand, and here's how we are going to do that. Then you can give them some procedure that will let them do what they need, without disrupting. You're giving them permission to care for themselves, and giving them she acceptable ways to go about it.

This a great way to help and assure the student that what he is feeling is normal and to comfort him.
You can give your student a special gift or a g8ft basket to the family.
