Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

I'd definitely focus more on the analytics piece of the puzzle, as that's becoming more and more critical in HR (and really, every aspect of business).
Practically, an HR cert (PHR or SHRM-CP) is your best and quickest path to relevance, recognition, and growth in HR. I’d start there and get a few years of experience. A masters degree with limited direct HR experience isn’t really worth much
I wouldn’t spend the money (or time) on a masters for HR. Get your certification and some work experience. I have a friend of a friend with a masters and very little HR experience and now he’s struggling to find a job. Instead of the two years in school, he could’ve been getting real life experience now he’s stuck.
Oh, that's a good point. When I started college for my BA in Business Admin back in 2017, my goal was to get a HR job after graduation and then go back for my masters, followed by getting certified, but I could never decide on a HR degree or MBA. I never got a job out of college, but that still brings up a good point about the data science degree.
I haven't gotten into HR yet. I graduated in 2020 and have been doing other jobs with no chance to even intern during my senior year.
I have a masters in business management with a focus on HR.
My recommendation would be first to get the PHR / SHRM-CP certification. Then, work for a while and decide about your master's degree.
