Other store managers on the bowl, how is your relationship with your team? I want to forge a better connection with the team, but I'm getting the cold shoulder from them because I replaced someone who I think used to be their favorite person. How can I win their trust/love/loyalty?

Forget about earning love. Not every employee is going to like you, much less love you, and that's okay. They don't need to to still trust and respect you. To build that, you've got to show your decision was justified in this instance and isn't something they should fear happening to them too as long as they're doing their jobs well. Also, show interest in them and their work, ask questions, and be open to feedback and ideas. You want to come across as part of the team, not separate from it, and that starts by showing you value their shared experience and don't have an ego/think you know everything.

It’ll be a slow process. Replacing somebody might be the reason, but do not assume. If you can, start having 1:1s and talking about their goals and how you can support them.

Depending how long it's been, these things take time. I found that they might've loved their previous manager who let them do whatever but it actually increases job satisfaction to be the best at the job and strive for your team to do the same! Slow and steady

They are not your friends. It’s very true when they say it’s lonely at the top. Just continue to support them in any way you can. Of course be nice, but stern when you need to be. I like to lead with kindness and set expectations for standards. Get to know them, ask questions about them beyond work. As long as they know you have their back, especially when it comes to helping when they need a hand, they’ll come around.

That’s a tough spot, but it’s possible! Start small—show consistent support, recognize their efforts, and be approachable without forcing it. Trust takes time, especially when replacing someone they were attached to. Patience and consistency usually pay off.

Anyone here do HR for an organization with both union and non union employees? My organization is very small consisting of 8 union employees and 7 non union employees. We do not have an official handbook and I’ve been working with Paychex HR team to put one together. It’s a bit frustrating because I feel my rep doesn’t know too much about mixed environments. I am trying to distribute a memo with the code of conduct policies. I wrote up a nice policy and at the end I wrote: (rest in comments)
