Our mid-sized firm is merging next quarter, and the rumour mill is going crazy about compensation changes. I can't help but be a little worried as well. Are salary reductions common during a merger?

Not immediately, but if one side makes more than the other, there will be adjustments to converge in the first year or two (almost always on the upside to combat attrition). The number one objective is to not upset any more apple carts than necessary in the short term, and keeping as many people as possible is at the top of the list. Cutting pay would be a massive unforced error.

The things you should worry about: new systems, different leadership structure, productivity requirements.

Honestly, I would be more concerned about layoffs. I would personally think that they are more likely to lay people off that make too much than cut pay. When a firm is acquired, they often do cut down the current staff. Hopefully they won’t.

Depends on if they are client serving or support staff..

I have never heard dof salary reductions. If you are above the new target comp for your level, you may not get raises like you are used to thoguh

You should also be comparing benefit costs and plan designs of the new firm vs current firm.

What do you think about switching tech stacks vs becoming an expert in one stack? I am a backend Java engineer, and have solely used Java since I've started my software engineering career about 2 years ago. I don't know whether I should explore other tech stacks while I'm young, or instead focus on becoming a Java expert, given that I enjoy working in Java.

I have a LOT of credit card debt. It has just grown over time and I can’t find my way out. I’m considering debt consolidation, specifically a company called National Debt Relief which seems legit but I’m just so hesitant because I’m scared to make my situation worse. Or a personal loan to pay off all the CC debt and then have a smaller all in one payment. I’m intelligent and I work in finance, it’s so embarrassing. HELP.

Hi team ,
I resigned and my last working day was last day of month .
The company KPMG was suppose to deduct my joining bonus and other things in final settlement. Last working day was last day of month , which means i got full salary.
What they will do in final settlement? Will they ask me to pay separately? I have resigned and joined another organisation. Any one knows what will happen ?

Hi LTI Fishes, I am new to this variable included pay structure. From my first company to current I am getting fixed pay only. So, I know how to calculate my in-hand salary with that. I can see here 10% is variable pay. I have some questions,

1. How much will be in-hand salary?

2. Is there any hidden component which may deduct from my salary?

3. How variable pay will be paid? monthly or quarterly or annually?

4. How much variable pay we will get by Average?
