A wise person once told me you don't have to be afraid of clients anymore because they don't own the business like they used to. They are just another employee like you and me. And mostly lack the passion or courage.
Get everything in writing. Don’t trust any client to be trustworthy when it comes to one on one conversations.

Go on record as saying that you and the agency have made a professional recommendation based on your collective expertise for reaching desired KPIs, but they are welcome to make their own decisions in how their budget is spent, you just won’t be held to those same KPI targets.
For bad creative, tell them nobody gets celebrated for playing it safe. The most talked about campaigns push the needle, chart new ground, and make people gasp. Vanilla won’t get you promoted. Make it tangible to them.
