Hi, I’m a Tax Lawyer at a Big Four Firm... I think you can have a solo career, but, you should have the previous experience required first! Be sure about that!

Solo Tax Atty here. The toughest part is generating clients - somewhat obviously. Most local Tax Attys around me also have other practice areas - bankruptcy, tax prep, estate planning, etc. as it can be tough to find pure tax clients. But - once you generate a solid base and get a decent marketing plan in place you should be good to go.

Attorney 3 or 4, can you guys expand a bit on the kind of work you do?

For sure - I know quite a few solo tax attorneys. I recommend joining your local bar association and getting on their tax exec committee. I’m also a tax attorney but not solo. At the beginning of my career, I joined bar association and met a bunch of fantastic solo tax attorneys. Good luck!

I already have tons of experience at my BIGLAW firm. I just have no idea how to get the kind of clients that need my expertise as a solo

Interesting. Let’s see if the uptick In cases continues to drive an uptick in hospitalizations and then in fatalities. Depends on how many of the cases are incidental or in very young people not prone to severe cases. But either way, look at the hospital capacity utilization figures! This is the untold story. Were we bending the curve to avoid unnecessary deaths due to overcrowded hospitals, or were we bending the curve to buy time for treatments and vaccine, or just to slow fatalities?

Hi all, so I got an offer from TCS last week with 2L of joining bonus. The JB related details are not mentioned in the offer letter and when I tried calling my HR he is neither picking up the call nor replying to my email. Will they be giving me the bonus, if yes what shall I get as a reference from them. Please advise. TIA

Has anyone dealt with stuffing allocation in a non-hedge fund context? It seems even in the HF world the law is fuzzy in using aggregate reverse 704c principles in stuffing allocations. Like, sure, the market is there but no authority really blessed it (other than some Cravath partner’s article in Tax Notes in 2013). If we are talking asset class that isn’t really like marketable securities but might be able to treat it similarly solely by virtue of, say, valuation on a quarterly basis (contd)

Firms I’m considering: Latham, Gibson, Sidley, Goodwin, Milbank. Thank you all!

Anyone have any thoughts on a fair salary for a part time virtual tax prep-focused position? I’ve been made an offer for south of 800 hours/year (fluctuating for seasonal ebb and flow, of course), and I’m curious whether it’s a decent offer or not. I have 13 years of experience in a big box franchise where I’ve handled complex returns from day 1. 30% of my workload has been 1120/1120S/1065 and the rest higher-level 1040s and a few 1041s & 990s. I’ll be bringing 75-100 clients with me.
