I am in a similar situation. There are a couple of par 3 courses in the Houston area. One of them is fairly new and is only 9 holes. I believe it offers the ability to do the course with a coach. That’s my plan once I get up the courage to try a course for the first time.
I go to Hermann park a lot after 4 on a weekday, it’s very relaxed no polos and tshirt and shorts kind of course. It’s slightly tougher of a course since it’s very straight narrow but you definitely won’t feel like you need to be good to enjoy.
Let me know if you like to go whenever, I’m at east river 9 pretty often and the head pro is a friend of mine too, he offers a clinic every Tuesday too
East River 9 is a par 3 course that just opened last November. It’s pretty nice but can be a little expensive. You can usually find a good deal on GolfNow if your times are flexible. It’s very approachable.
Another par three course is Melrose. It is very cheap but also not very nice. Extremely approachable, and usually not a lot of people there. The greens are pretty bad, so you would not get much practice putting but it could be good for practicing your short game.
There is also a program called Spark Golf. They partner with local golf courses and host a “league“ every week. The format is nine holes and it’s designed to be very friendly for beginners. It would be a good way to go out and meet some new people and learn the ropes. You can sign up as a team of two people or you can sign up as an individual and they will pair you with a partner.
Have you ever played 9/18? If not, I’d recommend a few lessons first. If you have, then East River 9 or Hermann park are best bets.
