A robot will not replace me while I am alive. My style of teaching and how I connect to students is too advanced for AI.
So it’s story time with a huge Teddy Ruxpin. This AI robot would tell stories and hold conversations.
My concerns:
Will conversations between students and AI be available to parents and admin to review? Will it send red flag warnings if content is inappropriate or concerning?
It’s not an adult to watch students, stop fights, or help with lunch. Yet it costs as much as a paying a human classroom assistant to buy.
How is it being maintenance? Will there also be a tech the school must pay for?
How heavy is it? Can it be programmed to move itself out of the way during testing?
I’m a skeptic on using AI to replace humans in jobs that need a human touch. I could only imagine the issues…”well Ms. Sally said … and she is a computer so I don’t have to listen to you.”
I rather see AI talking animals. Less confusion on why Ms. Sally looks like a trusted adult but it’s not.

I don't see this being much different than the first time I had access to computers in a classroom, then a computer with internet access, etc...
It's a new technology that will almost certainly be just as pervasive some day. If kids don't learn how to interact with it properly at school, they will learn to do so improperly somewhere else (and some will, anyway).

No. Neither are these, if you read the article.
This technology is mind-blowing, but it's still a long way from being able to "replace" teachers.

I don't think it can replace teachers yet. It's just going to be a teaching supplement. I think its creepy but idk maybe it will go over well
Maybe they will arm them and get rid of SRO's as well. Get rid of the buildings- save $$ and let them access the curriculum how they wish. As long as teachers don't have a value add from robot Sally - we don't have an answer as to why they shouldn't go this route. When we outsource our teaching to canvas/ Google Classroom and AI- what did we think the natural progression would be ?
