Quick question: will you buy vanguard index funds through a vanguard account or their ETF versions through Robinhood or Ameritrade (already have Robinhood and Ameritrade) ?

Trying to build a strategy focused on index funds.

ETF version. I don’t like Vanguards interface.

I but ETFs through Merrill

ETFs

I buy direct from the source, but it truly doesn’t matter as long as the fees are the same

You can buy the ETFs on Vanguard as well

Should I ask for promotion after working in Tax for 5 months? I had a 5k sign on bonus, with a ok start up salary. We had some changes in management recently, and I had to step up to train new employees and showing new hires how to utilize our system and softwares. Even had to show our new manager how to do things cuz she came from non PA company. I didn’t have that much of experience when I was hired but I feel like I and working like an senior now cuz other coworkers ask for directions daily.

Hi FIRE 🐟 thinking to buy my first house next year and I’ve read advice here that says to buy the first property and then rent it out (and put little down), but given the current high interest rates, if I put little down, the mortgage will be really high. I also live in a HCOL area so is this advice for LCOL/MCOL or am I missing something? Advice is appreciated!

Can someone explain to me the limit of $6000 contribution to IRA? If I have a Roth 401k through my company, can I open a Roth IRA on my own? If that’s the case, does that mean I can max out $6000*2=$12000? (I am sure that’s not right because otherwise it’s a loophole, but I just don’t fully understand the concept. Would really appreciate an expert’s help!)

Is there any benefit in contributing to 401(k) with no employer contribution? If not, I understand the next steps are Roth (which I do not qualify for) and Traditional IRA. I am interested in hearing opinions on using a ROTH IRA vs or with a ROTH 401k. I currently contribute to a regular pre-tax 401k and a ROTH 401k and am interested in the ROTH IRA. It seems very similar to a ROTH401k but includes a limit on contributions and excludes my employers matching (obviously). I feel as though it isn't worth using since I am already utilizing a beneficial post tax retirement plan.

I just hit my lean fire number but am hesitating to pull the trigger, so was hoping to run it by people smarter than me:

- I have a few rentals that bring in ~$1800/mo cash flow, taxes are negligible, Capex incl.
- My paper assets will bring in ~$1200/mo at 3% draw
- I get free Healthcare at the VA
- No plans on kids
- My expenses haven't topped $30k/yr ever
- I could always reenter the workforce if needed (albeit probably not in consulting)

Please point out the flaws here, what am I missing?
