Quick question: will you buy vanguard index funds through a vanguard account or their ETF versions through Robinhood or Ameritrade (already have Robinhood and Ameritrade) ?

Trying to build a strategy focused on index funds.

ETF version. I don’t like Vanguards interface.

I but ETFs through Merrill

I buy direct from the source, but it truly doesn’t matter as long as the fees are the same

You can buy the ETFs on Vanguard as well

Should I ask for promotion after working in Tax for 5 months? I had a 5k sign on bonus, with a ok start up salary. We had some changes in management recently, and I had to step up to train new employees and showing new hires how to utilize our system and softwares. Even had to show our new manager how to do things cuz she came from non PA company. I didn’t have that much of experience when I was hired but I feel like I and working like an senior now cuz other coworkers ask for directions daily.

For my fellow women with ADHD:
Do you notice that your crash points are during your menstrual cycle? I have depression too so the hormone changes really affect me and I am an emotional wreck/bi-polar (beyond what is normal PMS type behavior). I am a healthcare executive and it is affecting work relationship and meds aren’t helping (depression nor ADHD meds). I just feel very defeated and don’t know what to do. I hate my brain 🥴

My son 529 grows so slow... Any suggestions ? Which bank or state do you all use? Should I just invest for him in a roth at work ?

I’m concerned that my latest job have been less than a year each on my resume but I’m at my wits end and need to start looking. Do you think I will be overlooked because of the length of time at each company?

After John Oliver's statement on access to mental health services, I'm curious to see others' takes. Is our mental healthcare system broken? Is it inaccessible? With so many digital counseling services and the breaking down of -some- stigmas around mental health, I feel like we have done better. People just need to make the decision to seek help.

What are some good companies for virtual or in person career fairs? I’m in the Atlanta area and can easily drive to Chattanooga, Athens or Greeneville, SC. I’m adding in Birmingham as well. Any other tips? (I’m using contacts and getting my resume rebuilt. I just started the search two weeks ago and stopped last week when I realized my resume was week -peer reviews.)

A neighbor at our lake house let me try on his seadweller. I love the red text and the wider bracelet. It’s a huge watch though. Very tall and it’s pretty heavy on the wrist. I just don’t have the wrists to wear this and make it look good. I do really like it though

Hi FIRE 🐟 thinking to buy my first house next year and I’ve read advice here that says to buy the first property and then rent it out (and put little down), but given the current high interest rates, if I put little down, the mortgage will be really high. I also live in a HCOL area so is this advice for LCOL/MCOL or am I missing something? Advice is appreciated!

I’m regards to saving medical receipts to be reimbursed from your HSA at a later date: how do people maintain receipts over time?

Can someone explain to me the limit of $6000 contribution to IRA? If I have a Roth 401k through my company, can I open a Roth IRA on my own? If that’s the case, does that mean I can max out $6000*2=$12000? (I am sure that’s not right because otherwise it’s a loophole, but I just don’t fully understand the concept. Would really appreciate an expert’s help!)

Is there any benefit in contributing to 401(k) with no employer contribution? If not, I understand the next steps are Roth (which I do not qualify for) and Traditional IRA. Is the traditional IRA any better than just a regular brokerage account? I’m very new to investing and would great appreciate any recommendations.

Correct if I’m wrong , but a lot of FIRE strategies involve eliminating debt, lots of savings, & investing the money in the markets & rental properties.

NY state took my tax refund because of an outstanding liability. Is there a way to get my money back?

I am interested in hearing opinions on using a ROTH IRA vs or with a ROTH 401k. I currently contribute to a regular pre-tax 401k and a ROTH 401k and am interested in the ROTH IRA. It seems very similar to a ROTH401k but includes a limit on contributions and excludes my employers matching (obviously). I feel as though it isn't worth using since I am already utilizing a beneficial post tax retirement plan.

Any good financial strategy books for someone with high financial literacy?

I’m frustrated by the “highly rated” books being antiquated - most of them mention pensions and commissions on trades, reading newspapers for picks, and that’s just outdated.

Selling a house I bought a year ago (buying new one in a different neighborhood), and about to make a $130K profit on the sale net of fees. How do I minimize my tax obligations? I understand if it’s a primary residence for 2 years, you get up to $250K gains tax free, but can that be prorated?

My husband and I have 1 car - around $6K left on a 0% APR loan. I have worked from home the last 2 years while he goes to teach in person, and the lack of freedom is getting to me. We are thinking of getting a 2nd vehicle. Do you have advice/do’s and don’t’s? Vehicles aren’t a great investment, but they are so necessary in our car centric society for mobility.

I have a SEP IRA from my last stint freelancing but I want to do a back door Roth now that I’m a FTE again. Has anyone been in a similar situation and figured it out? Thanks!

I just moved to America and trying to get my head around savings / investing / insurance options. I’ve set up a 401k as a start. Do I need both insurance cover AND a HSA? Or is just insurance enough? Do I need a financial advisor to go through these with? It’s quite complex 😅

In my effort to save I have become cheap and can’t seem to overlook small amounts friends owe me and it’s creating a rift. How do you be responsible, enjoy spending and switch the wires from frugal to a good friend.
Recently my close friends didn’t invite me to a trip. When I told them I was hurt they mentioned that my ask of paying for my vegetarian meal separately at dinner had created awkward dinner experiences. Also I had offended a friend by telling her she owed be $12.

I just hit my lean fire number but am hesitating to pull the trigger, so was hoping to run it by people smarter than me:

- I have a few rentals that bring in ~$1800/mo cash flow, taxes are negligible, Capex incl.
- My paper assets will bring in ~$1200/mo at 3% draw
- I get free Healthcare at the VA
- No plans on kids
- My expenses haven't topped $30k/yr ever
- I could always reenter the workforce if needed (albeit probably not in consulting)

Please point out the flaws here, what am I missing?
