For me, I breastfed wherever I happened to be sitting - couch, chair, park bench, didn't matter much. It was nice to have a boppy, but not necessary once I got the hang of it. That being said, we bought a really great rocking chair/glider when we had our first baby. (The money was a gift from my dying grandfather-in-law, who told us it was really important to have a good chair to rock our babies...so that's what we used it for.) I only really used it for feeding at nighttime, but all those nights, it was my sanctuary. That's where I rocked each of my babies. It's where I held them when they couldn't sleep. It's where I sang them songs and read them books. It's where my 3 year old climbed up with my 1 year old to 'read' him a book when I wasn't looking. So, strictly for breastfeeding, I'd say it doesn't matter - but as a special place in your home, either will do, just make sure it's comfortable and rocks :)
So sweet. What chair was it? (If you don’t mind sharing)
I have the babyletto kiwi and love it for nursing. Got it with my first and put it in my second’s nursery. I prefer it over my couch
Same!! Bought this with my first, and now it’s in my second baby’s nursery. It is seriously the best at night!
I NEED a chair that reclines and rocks in the nursery. It’s wonderful for those middle of the night feedings and I’m too tired to move. I’ll just sleep in the chair. BUT I can breastfeed literally anywhere.
I am team reclining chair glider too. Very comfy
Another vote for a glider… even if you decide to not breastfeed exclusively, it’s handy for middle of the night bottle feeds, reading stories to your little ones, postpartum snuggles, etc. I loved having a glider so much that I bought a second for my second one, and we kept my oldest’s glider in his room for story time.
I vote for using it as an excuse to buy a comfortable chair that you love. Always wanted a gorgeous, classic rocking chair, perfect! Want a super comfy recliner, do it! Like cool, modern gliders with a shearling lumbar pillow, this is your excuse. If you can, go test it out before you buy and get whatever feels like a chair you’re willing to sit in A LOT. I still have my glider even though my feeding days are behind me and I’m glad I treated myself to something nice.
When my current baby was born she slept in my room and there was no space for a chair so I nursed her in bed with a boppy. It KILLED my back! We were on vacation at 1 month postpartum and I used a chair to feed her and it was soo much better, after that I started using the rocking chair in the nursery. Mine is a random one from Amazon, got it a few years ago. I did also use the couch with a pillow wedged under baby (for breastfeeding) or my elbow (for bottle feeding)
I always sat up when I breastfed. The glider/rocker was not a comfortable position for my back to feel supported. Corner of our couch, with a boppy was my go to.
For all three of mine, I was always most comfortable on the couch with the boppy and a pillow on either side to prevent bop flop. Sometimes in bed, with one pillow vertical and one horizontal behind me. Had a rocking chair for the third (hand me down from a friend), and just hated it. I honestly found my desk chair more comfortable than the rocking chair. But every mom and every baby is different. For reference, because it seems like it could matter, I’m 5’8”.
I fed anywhere I was. But at home. I preferred a lazy boy style chair. I used a traditional rocking chair 1 whole time then sold it.
Small reclining glider. I just googled the babyletto kiwi someone else mentioned and it looks a lot like what I have.
My body would have absolutely hated me if I breastfed regularly just any old place. We have very comfortable glider and nursing pillow that was an MVP while breastfeeding. I’d nurse other places but a travel nursing pillow made it so much easier on my body. The hunching over was so rough on me.
