Sharing this in case it helps any students or junior creatives trying to network on LinkedIn and struggling to get replies. If you’re going to send a request to someone you don’t know, consider these two I just got:

Student 1: No message (despite paying for LinkedIn premium), leads title with her being a student, that’s it.

Student 2: Details her industry focus/expertise in her title, includes thoughtful message stating her intent, portfolio, and kind note.

A little effort can go a long way!

I’ll note too that sometimes even with effort, you still get ghosted, but.. definitely doesn’t hurt 🙃

Does anybody else get frustrated when recruiters care about those who were effected by layoffs more than other job seekers? Like yea I am sorry about their layoffs but I have been seeking a job before their them, I feel like it’s unfair. When someone losses a job they become a job seeker like the rest of us.

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

Hello People,

I received a verbal offer letter from
Oracle. I said yes and things moved on. BGV was initiated as well. BUT, Yesterday I received a call from the hiring manager that Oracle is putting hiring freeze, so they are not able to release offer letter as 1 approval was still pending from the VP. He said I will be contacted once freeze is over. Do you think I still have any chances of getting in once the freeze is lifted and how long the freezes are in Oracle ? Oracle

I have a question about pricing. Some context to my upcoming question: My brother and I are starting a personal training business. I have six years military experience and he is still in the military. Collectively we have passed the hardest schools in the military and both love fitness and have experience building programs and are both certified personal trainers. I don’t know weather we should charge on the higher spectrum because of our experience or lower because of our business infancy.

Reorgs are just a part of the corporate world. If you haven’t been a part of one in your career yet, then you most likely haven’t been in the corporate workforce for very long. If you have been a part of a reorg, however, how do you personally approach it? There are many factors at play, but in general do you try to establish relationships with the individuals you know will be key contributors and/or decision makers going forward? Or do you lay low and let what ever happens be/hope for the best?
