There are plenty of successful people who dropped out of school - Zuckerberg, Bezos, etc. schooling doesn’t matter especially after 5+ years of work experience. What do they value in going to specific programs? Is it the prestige or are they learning something others aren’t? Do they have people on their team that didn’t attend a “top school”?

really good point
How about you simply prove them wrong then?
That's annoying and sounds frustrating, but all you can do is advocate for your picks but leadership ultimately gets to decide. There's really no point in losing sleep, if they want to build a team of people who aren't the most qualified, that's their choice. It shouldn't affect your income, unless you think it's worth leaving over. I would personally let them just take the worse employees but keep making my recommendations for who I think is the most qualified.

drop the company name!
Yup, HM1 has a good point. If your leaders are positioning the hiring process to be conducted this way, then you should leave OR just just rubber stamp this and put your energy into other skills for career development
Be strategic fill with diverse teams that think like you and then replace them all, get the numbers.
