I really appreciate you sharing this. I’ve been through a similar journey — most of my roles since the Great Recession have been contract positions, so I understand how tough it is to keep momentum. Your persistence shows real strength. The job market has changed so much, and stories like yours remind people they’re not alone.
Two years is a long time to go without employment. How have you maintained housing, food, etc? How have you maintained your mental health?
In a couple weeks it will be a year since I got laid off. I'm honestly looking at giving up a great apartment with below market rent in a decent neighborhood to move back in with my parents because I just can't afford it anymore and have nothing to fall back on.
I have a wife that works, plus I've been doing DoorDash to make some money to pay the bills. I don't see myself doing this forever, but I'm doing the best that I can in these tough times.
I understand that we're living in frustrating times where it is harder to apply for jobs because of the hoops that you have to jump from doing multiple round interviews and stuff. I was frustrated last year, but now I understand things clearer. I am not giving up on finding employment.
This also isn't a reason for people to post unsolicited advice. I understand where I am right now is rough, but I'm gonna keep going until someone will take notice of what I can do. I'm sitting on my own talent.
