Actually it does. When you no longer have a lot on your plate you start feeling like you are forgetting something because you have not enough on your plate.

Check out Todoist. I don’t use the desktop app but it has a plug-in for Outlook. I think it’s more advanced than what I use it for, but it helps me have a running list of things to do in order of priority/deadline—obviously, it only works if you’re diligent about adding things, but it’s like having a big post-it note constantly on your screen where you can quickly type a note or reminder. It’s honestly helped me a lot with feeling like I’m not forgetting things, or feeling comfortable knowing everything on my list can be handled the next morning/day.

Seconding this! I only use the app’s most basic functions and it has still helped tremendously with my peace of mind.

Nope! That’s why I always wear my Apple Watch so even in the shower when thoughts pop into my head of something I need to do I can say, “Siri, remind me in 10 days to renew my NJ law license.” 😂 otherwise I’d be stricken from the bar. Lol kind of a joke but also not really

I just had a colleague ask me my opinion on a few cars since she’s buying her daughter’s first car. Went through a few brands trying to get a sense of where her mind was, and as soon as I mentioned VW she said “oh, they’re owned by Mercedes and we had bad experiences with Mercedes years ago.”

What comically incorrect car things have your coworkers said to you about cars?

I'm moving my firm to a non hourly model. I want to encourage efficiency and discourage the work your life away model.

For litgation we're thinking past pleadings and MTDS then X, Discovery than Y, SMJ motions then Z trial then Q.

What are your thoughts on this ? What are my issues here. I think the hardest one is to predict discovery. But I also think we can outsource some of this to cheeper labor and lean on our tech to not actually have to review everything.

What would you say is the difference between a billable hour target vs. minimum? I feel like some firms boast about not having a “minimum” but the expectation is that you to exceed this target which just makes it a minimum.

I’m about to give my notice at a firm I’ve been at for the majority of my legal career. They’ve recently offered me non-equity partnership (which I’ve accepted), w equity partnership on the horizon. However, I’ve been annoyed with their way of running the business and getting between me and my earnings far too long; and I received a lucrative offer to go in-house. I’m not looking forward to their reaction and feel bad about them having to take over my docket when everyone’s very busy. Any tips?

Do large law firms really recieve enough applications for a position that they cannot follow up when someone reaches out to check on thier application? I get that if you have to reach out, they probably weren't interested anyways, I'm just curious why there is a practice of just leaving applicants in the wind. And also, how does one go about finding out why they were rejected, if thier qualifications are "impressive"?

I have a promising interview at a relatively large law firm in my area (+100 attorneys) next week. The position is for a transactional role in their real estate practice group, and they are seeking someone with at least 2 YOE. I have a bit over 7 YOE with a strong real estate/commercial lit. background. Over the past two years in my current position, I've been doing a lot more transactional work. The split is around 50% transactional and 50% lit.
