Yes they do. Especially in retail & restaurants because the schedule is made based on the stores needs for employees on certain days & certain times. It’s not saying you will not get days off what it means your not going to always get the days off maybe together or on the days you would prefer off. It’s also because most people want weekends off & in these types of businesses that may be their busiest times.
I guess sometimes a job is a job at the end of the day! Whatever goes with it is whatever you’ll take sometimes!
This is less common now than even 10 years ago. It’s less about signing a contract saying you agree, than that if you want hours at a job, you need full avail.
Oh 100%. I don’t envy the people juggling multiple PT jobs, just as I don’t envy myself everytime a holiday comes up and I’m the only one not calling out. 😂😅
May I add to my last comment. Change is good and progress is inevitable but we have to stop and draw some shades of grey between the lines yes these are rules and guidelines set out by the government departments but I would like to know if the average worker is in agreement of same such rules and guidelines, I have to say this “back in my days we worked nonstop, worked hard and seldom said no to extra work we got the job done and we were paid. I have proud of a good clean work file so when I was disciplined and given a white card (warning) for starting early on a shift to help clean tidy and restock a restaurant that was when I thought this is not going to work and this is not right. In fact I’ve had it totally disgusting that a company would foster that has any such discipline in the workplace for such a petty unnecessary reason and by the way we were threatened with certain death dismissals and all sorts of other stuff if that restaurant was not cleaned by the time the owner‘s mother-in-law came for her birthday party so lose lose, no win win but I got a white card, and the mother-in-law had a great time. You’re welcome.

I’d say most people agree to it, especially since most employers require “open availability” aka I want the ability to schedule for any day and any shift.
Yeah I assume so!
Most do yes. They require you to be available in case they need you to fill in and they have to go based on your availability but some are actually flexible with working with you on your availability.
That’s true!
Choosing retail & hospitality you don't really have a choice. That's the norm and has been for 35 years.
Yeah I guess
