Ugh, I feel this. There’s nothing shameful about honest work—especially in retail, where you deal with way more than people realize. It says more about them than you. You’re doing more than most by just showing up every day.
I'm
It is a weird thing when that happens, I've had customers who are probably unemployable insult me for having a job. I just shrug it off. But it is an annoying part of retail work, people with grievances feel like they can take them out on someone just trying to make a buck working in a store.
Now,I'm looking for a job. Prep cook if possible in nyc
That’s so real—it’s wild how some people try to shame others for working hard, especially when they rely on the very place they’re mocking. Retail takes patience most folks don’t understand.
Some people are only happy when others are miserable. I’ve had customers try to belittle me about where I work, and it drives me crazy. I’m doing an honest day's work, which is something a lot of them never did. And even if they did, they came out as a terrible person.
It’s so frustrating how people look down on honest work—especially when they rely on it. You deserve respect for showing up, working hard, and keeping your cool in situations most couldn’t handle for a day.

"You work at the dollar store"
Yeah, Chuckles, but you STEAL from the dollar store.
I mean, they can't fire you for saying that to a customer. Shoplifters aren't customers.
And you're still getting paid at least minimum wage, which is more than they make, and comparable to many other places. Plus you probably work harder than most other retail.
I completely understand where you are coming from and I know the "people" you speak of. If they weren't getting government assistance they wouldn't be able to afford the place they are living, the food they shovel in their mouths or the clothes on their backs but they have the nerve to criticize people who are hard working. So when they finally catch up and people are reevaluated that are on government assistance they may have to go get a job and they won't have the experience. So many DEI hires were hired with no work experience and were fired within 6 months because of theft or fraud. Welfare is generationally taught that's why more and more of the younger generations are on welfare by the age of 18 and deterred from getting a job or "mom" will lose her housing or lower her food stamps. It's why a lot of couples who have children choose not to get married because then they wouldn't both be able to fraud the system.

I never stole but I know some who did. I shop at the dollar store all the time and I think the employees should be commended for a job well done. You know they do it because they enjoy people because I am sure they do not get paid near what they should!
Yep. I worked at a newer Dollar Tree location but it was on the edge of a bad location. People would walk up to our location (because they don't even have a license/vehicle to drive) and talk trash about our wage, place of work, etc. stating it is an easy job and anyone can do it. Ok, then apply, we're hiring! haha.
If we keep getting bothered about any little thing a customer complain about than those issues we tend to carry it inside us , we get mad and end up bringing all that negativity to our home and that’s not good for our health or family because nobody wants to hear it! I remember coming home complaining about all the stuff and eventually even my children were getting upset. So do yourself a favor go to work and don’t put to much attention to what people say ignore them and they go bother someone else it’s not worth your health , your time, or money!
Sorry people do this to you.
