Bring back accountability to parents. It has become okay to be absent from school. Truancy should be a thing again. I have had so many students take vacays during the school year and the parents just do not care that they are missing instruction. The parents need to be held accountable again.
Our school uses virtual learning too much.
We don’t just need small tweaks. We need real reform in our school system. Too often, conversations around education get clouded by personal biases, politics, and assumptions, and we lose sight of what school is meant to be: a place for growth, learning, and preparation for life.
Coming from a different country, I’ve seen a model where parents and teachers work in true partnership where families trust educators not only to teach, but also to guide and discipline when necessary. That shared responsibility creates structure, respect, and accountability.
Somewhere along the way, that balance has weakened. If we want better outcomes for students, we have to put aside our differences and refocus on what really matters: supporting teachers, engaging families, and creating environments where students can thrive academically and personally.
That sounds great!
We need more hands on activities and practical ways to apply what they learn instead of just filling out worksheets and sending them out to recess.
