Students are only with us 6-7 hours a day. There’s only so much we can do, or undo in that time. Our job is also made much harder when parents bend over backwards to excuse their child’s behavior or worse attack educators for establishing boundaries with consequences. I see this at my school quite a bit. What do you think society must do to value and change our education system today?

Have you had to change your start date after accepting an offer and how did it go? I told them I need to give 30 day notice and so I set my start date (incorrectly) assuming the background check and drug screen would take a few days to clear. However, the drug screen is now taking over a week and a half (still not finished, maybe tomorrow). Apparently things are much slower due to staffing issues and labs are backed up. It’s cutting into my 30 day notice significantly. Thoughts?

I read this super interesting article about how big companies like Toyota are investing in social-emotional training for their employees and seeing massive benefits. I actually think this could be a whole separate class for students of all ages. Learning about conflict resolution, growing your own self-regulation skills...it's really important.
