Tax minimization strategies for Americans with foreign earned income?

I believe there’s relief for the first $126k, and a bit more to offset the small amount of tax I’d be paying on US income, but am negotiating a package for a ~$1M comp in the UAE. Uncle Sam is looking to take a 33% bite out of that.

Strongly suggest you seek out a professional tax planner. Given the amount, I think you'd want more than opinions from an anonymous forum.

This. OP, pony up for some help on your situation.

If they want you get them to pay you 33% more to compensate the issue

What's your current effective tax rate?

FYI - your marginal tax rate on the first taxable dollar after deductions will be 32% and go up from there. Your effective rate on $1m will be 30% - no escaping. Unless you get them to pay you salary into a tax deductible S Corp that you set up and claim expenses against

First time in negotiation but offer is for $25k more, $90k-> $115k. Guaranteed 25% bonus. They seem hard to budge but is that worth a jump? I know it’s about an extra $1300/month for base

Thinking of what else could be negotiated

Job transition question: I recently accepted an offer for a new role with Merrill Lynch, the following day I was fired from my previous employer. I haven’t filled out the updated work history background check info yet. The reason for termination was due to performance expectations not being met. Should I reach out to my new employer and let them know that I’ve been terminated? Should I just put the termination update on the background check form and leave it at that? Wondering what I should do.
