Technically, I was fired from my last job... but I've been telling hiring managers that I was laid off, because I think this sounds better. Are there any drawbacks to doing this? Hiring managers can't find out why I was let go from my former job, right?

I have always heard manager time should be about 50% of staff time but now leadership is pushing back. I have found the 50% to reflect reality. Got braids. You'd think I literally got a face transplant from how shook my coworkers are. Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much.
