Truthfully, a server makes their own money. A great server doesn’t worry about how much they make per hour. That gets eaten up in taxes anyway. A great server worries about how many shifts they have and what section they are serving.
Honestly? That’s not bad luck—that’s just hospitality math. You ask for a raise, they give you “more responsibility” instead. Jumping ship is practically the industry’s unofficial promotion system. But hey, props to you for advocating for yourself. Even if you got the cold shoulder, you planted the seed that you know your worth and managers do remember that down the line
Sorry to hear that, but that's just the kind of frustrating situation that's pretty common in the industry. A lot organizations will do anything to avoid giving raises. You've done the right thing, at least you made it clear that you know you deserve more. Bring it up again when you have an opportunity.
It’s semi normal in this field. Honestly, if the economy wasn’t so bad, you probably would’ve gotten the race. But when the job market favors the employer, they get to be a lot stinger.
