There was this one customer at the retail store I used to work at who’d spend hours piling up items in her cart. Then she’d go through the register, scanning each item one by one, only to start putting them back as the total added up too high for her. And the cashiers? We’d try to hide the second we saw her walk in the store! Have you ever had a customer who made you want to disappear like that?

Oh yes! There were always a few regulars who live to make your life miserable. And if I see them coming, I try to get out of Dodge if you know what I mean. Suddenly, I have to pee like I’ve never had to pee before my life lol

Haha yes!! That sudden “emergency bathroom break” hits real quick when you see that customer stroll in. Pure survival instinct 😂

Aw, as someone who has lived this before, I can sympathize with the woman. I mean, I understand it's annoying, but I have been there, living paycheck to paycheck, strategically trying to decide what item I needed more and which to put back.

I have also been poor. You can use a calculator as you shop and track the cost that way. This person's method of waiting until they are at the cash-wrap is inconsiderate.

Oh God yes...when I worked at a retail store they didn't realize sales do add up and when we had to do go backs, we had half the store in one buggy.

like

Ikrrr. People would pile on sale items like they were free samples and then look shocked when it rang up over $100.

I had a couple when I worked at a men’s clothing store, who would come in, pick up an item, ask you for the price, if it wasn’t clearance or too low they’d put it back or ask if we could lower the price 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

funny

To make it worse they’d bring you clearance items and ask you to scan it. It’d go on for about 20-30 mins usually and if they didn’t like the price they’d try to negotiate it or just leave

I still remember this one customer’s face, she was hands down the most ruthless I’ve ever dealt with. She’d come in a wheelchair and demand someone assist her while she shopped, treating them like a personal assistant, only to yell at them the whole time. We even had a nickname for her: “the chicken lady” (long story behind that one). Lol.

funny

Wow, “The Chicken Lady” sounds intense! Some customers really know how to test your patience, huh?

YES!!! At the store I worked at we had so many people that would do this regularly, like it was a hobbie. One of them was a regular that would come maybe 3x a month. She would do this only to buy one or two items and usually the CHEAPEST items too. I always wondered why people did this...

For all you retail people...are you experiencing a very slow holiday season? I am a retail manager and I feel like this season has been freakishly slow. I thought we would at least match last year's number or be up a little bit but we are trending down. I talked to employees of other stores in the mall and they are saying the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing this in their market?

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? I expect my workload to remain at this level through the end of the year at least.
