I have worked for the State of California for over 20 years and we get paid once a month
Most companies in the UK pay monthly only. Its the norm here
I live and work in Nigeria, we get paid monthly, it is more uncommon to be paid weekly.
I’ve heard of it and have a friend that’s paid monthly. I was weekly early in my career but have been bi-weekly for over 10 years.
Heard of it, haven’t experienced it - but I’m surprised that this wasn’t brought to your attention either during the interview stage or while reviewing the offer letter.
Any offers I’ve extended (even contract or international) are very explicit about pay rates and schedules, so this seems like an oversight or miscommunication.
However, as others have noted - some countries it’s customary and some companies just choose to pay their employees on a different cadence.
Very common especially with salary. It’s cheaper to run one big payroll once per month than multiple payrolls.
