I do in the sense that I am NOT AT ALL a smooth talker, status climber, chit-chatter. There are more politics involved the more senior you are and dealing with c-suite is kind of like a game. You have to connect with them, network with them and do the little dancey-dance and hoop jumping. There are meetings I’ve been in that I wished I hadn’t been in. There are some things better off not knowing as an employee IMO.
I just want to do the work, manage my teams, and keep the creative bar as high as I can. I don’t think I have any desire to hit CD in its entirety. I’d def go back to Sr. AD before moving on to CD, anyways.
Rising Star
(Title on here isn’t correct)
nah, it’s basically the same thing with more money, more opportunities and a little more responsibility.
Now full on CD I don’t know if I’ll ever want that.
CD is fine. ECD though, that's crazy.
I love it tbh. It feels like the best of both worlds.
I'm still doing my own work and adding to my book via some of the bigger campaigns, while working directly with my ECD, but also I get to mentor junior / intermediate teams on other projects
The only downside is that I'm busy af, but... Who isn't?
I feel the same, but one level up. Would heartily recommend CD to anyone who has the gumption for people stuff, downwards, upwards, and sideways. And if that’s not your jam, cool - be the best Sr AD/CW or ACD you can be, and help the CD, etc build the dept’s North Star of quality of work.
Honestly at most agencies an ACD title is useless. It’s more money but without creative direction responsibilities.
I loved the pay. Hated the responsibility.
So I became a freelancer.

I did and it’s been great
You went back? You went freelancing? Or asked to be demoted? Or found a job as an AD/CW?
