There could be only one reason for that: they were losers. They were dimwitted, unambitious, complacent, unimaginative, and risk-averse. They were middle class.”

There’s no such thing as RACE! Shout it from the rooftops! 🤓
@MES1,
Why?
Bowl Leader
We are one. ❤️
Scientifically, sure, but when you live in a country that continues it's legacy of white supremacism, with easily half the population blind to this fact, race is very, very real.

Agreed @CHS1, it is important NOT to erase race but to clarify how politics has made skin tone an issue. Then, we can begin to dismantle racism.
Race is social construct but unfortunately our students feel the pain of having darker skin everyday. We can acknowledge their feelings and stories because no matter what, the white skin will always have power over the dark skin.

@MichiganES1, Why are supporting a supremacist narrative?
This is why it's silly to select "inclusive" literature and represent authors purely because of their skin color and discount other authors simply because they are "old dead white guys". Every human has experienced pain and joy, select authors that write well regardless of their skin color. Saying your students "cant relate" to another human because of their race or culture is promoting racism. I can relate to any human because I have shared in this thing called life and all its confusion and emotion.

@HSET1, 1) that’s not what you said, but nice attempt at clean up, 2) to automatically devalue something because there’s less of it is ridiculous; scarcity always increases value.
I’m not going to attempt to share with you all of the great literature created by people of color. Just remember, your lack of knowledge doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. Educate yourself so that your classroom includes and values voices of all cultures.
