We recently got the ok to schedule our orientation and delivery date for our IVF medications and all I have to say is ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF! My husband has dermatomyositis, and his doctor put off treatment so that we could do some collection and go through IVF. I felt like my dr was blowing off our timeline, but I persisted. I worked with CVS Caremark directly and got approval in 2 days (not the expected 3 weeks). Moral of the story: ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF!

Lots of right wing hysteria about liberals trying to engineer equality of outcome to correct sexual/racial inequities (in higher ed, for example). I think we all want socioeconomic, gender and racial barriers to opportunities to be addressed, but no significant number of people really believe in equality of outcome right? 🥰 Good morning, here’s a Thought for Today: What can we do in our teaching practice to ensure that the term Antiracist does NOT become synonymous with anti white? 🤔

I’m struggling with an issue with a student right now. I teach in a suburban school outside of NYC that has a very large majority of white students. One of my Black students was recently involved in a biased incident with another student in which he received racist social media messages and racist spoken words from the other student. This was a kid that my Black student thought was his friend. He’s heartbroken, and so am I. I want to know how I can best support my student.

Recently, as you probably know, Dr. Seuss's estate chose to stop printing a few of his older books that had offensive racial stereotypes. There was huge backlash from white people, including teachers here, screaming "cancel culture!"
Now we have a white guy who murdered eight Asians in custody, unharmed; while the police officer who killed an African American man for allegedly trying to pass a bad check is about to go on trial.
Full disclosure: I'm white. But I'm still enraged by all this. You?

Something to think about... If you awakened tomorrow and your skin was a different color, ask yourself how you might feel and why? Don’t respond directly just think about that. Imagine you are not the enlightened person you are. 😬
