Because by realizing that people of other races and cultures are just like European Americans--wanting the same opportunity.
Because it is truly daunting and frightening to have to change your mindset and beliefs when they are deep rooted and everyone you have trusted led you this far. I also think people fear the unknown or what they don’t know. By learning how race has and is currently oppressing/silencing/murdering/erasing people living in USA and anywhere…white people with power, privilege, & positionality will not be able to use excuses of never knowing and will have to decide (1) will I stay on the right side of history and share my power/privilege/positionality — meaning I have to give some of it up so that others who look nothing like me can also win OR (2) will I not do what’s stated in number 1 & I’ll continue perpetuating racism, castism (Caste / Isabel Wilkerson), and hate.

&ArkansasHS1, yes! And our students who are white have been and continue to be harmed as well by our current, inaccurate,, exclusionary versions of historical events.
It might require action and change, both of which feel demanding and uncomfortable to many people.
