Just keep in mind you may end up needing a different stimulant or higher dose. So just tell observe how you feel and report to your doctor.
It should definitely be a noticeable difference! Try to compare how hard certain tasks used to be for you vs. now. Also how fast it wears off. And you may need to up the dose due to getting a tolerance to it also. For me after the first week I noticed it wasnât working as well. Iâm taking an extended release in the AM plus a quick release in the afternoon because I metabolize it fast.
In my experience, the first day on a low dose I didnât observe much change. My psych had me titeare the dose slowly over the first couple of weeks in small increments to get to a level that felt good
hm. My next appt was set a month out. is that weird? should it have been closer?
I tried three different types. Dexamphetamine, worked after increasing the dose slightly on day 3 but it didn't really hit until about a week later when lots of other things were probably aligned (food, protein breakfast, hydrated, morning organised the night before, good night's uninterrupted sleep and no phone before bed) and I realised I could read for more than an hour without falling asleep. It was incredible.
Unfortunately I was clenching my jaw quite severely in my sleep so my psychiatrist switched me to ritalin which did nothing, slow release dexamphetamine, very minor, barely noticeable. Went back to standard dexamphetamine and had to up to 20mg twice a day which I've been on for over 6 months (plus expensive jaw splint and 20mg catapress to reduce my BP which used to be normal). I don't find it helping as much lately but I still get a good regular bump at about 10:30am and 90 to 120 minutes of good focus and have been able to cut my old antidepressants by 25%.
Everybody is different, you need to try a lot of things to see what works for you.
There can be some weird intense periods in the early days but they usually wear off and aren't indicative of normal day to day after acclimation.
Week One, one afternoon, completely unexpectedly while walking my dog, I had a brief moment of what I can only classify as joy. I know from therapy that I don't really experience the high-end of "happy" emotions. It was beautiful but also devastating to realise that this is attainable for normal people and I will probably never feel it again. It haunts me.
I think itâs probably more accurate to view it if someone finds a medication that works for them the change is BOOM.
I was super lucky 10 min of adderall and an hour later I was actually sobbing with disbelief and joy at the change. That doesnât last, but it for me it was life changing.
When I first started in Ritalin, yes cried too that night thinking of what wouldâve been if I were to be diagnosed earlier in life. I wouldâve gotten so much done in life.
I just changed to Medikinet MR (higher dose) and not Im not sure how to feel now.
No more headaches, palpitation or random irritability but anxiety and emotional. Iâm still monitoring. Only been Day 5.
I wish you all the best
After reading all these comments I donât think my meds are working like they are supposed to. Doctor and I have been playing around with the dose and types but none of them have been an instant âwowâ
Best to feedback to your doc, you may need a higher dose? I tried the Medikinet modified release and couldnât tell a difference. I did not have any side effects though.
Immediately I went back to my doc and asked her to go back to the short release. Now Iâm back to Ritalin with all the side effects - mild headaches, nauseated, short fuse etc
Had to pick lesser of two evils. At least I know the meds are working
I didn't feel boom normal, but I did feel much more focused and able to think one thought at a time. It was like my mind was able to slow down for once insted of feeling like I was running on a hamster wheel all the time.
