Today in our Team Meeting, our department director informed us of 4 promotions given to team members. Not once were we informed of the open position so that we could apply. It’s as though they had been preselected. Doesn’t this violate the Equal Opportunity Act?

It’s not always about open positions. Sometimes it’s based on performance. Those 4 people may have created positions that the company didn’t realize it needed. No it doesn’t violate EOA as you and anyone else who didn’t get the promotions weren’t discriminated.

That is what some people do not understand. There are promotions that you cannot apply for. Where I work you do not apply to be a senior representative, it is a merit earned position. there are quite a few others like that as well.

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.
