1. Keeping lodging costs minimal yet comfortable, especially for places where I’ll be out exploring most of the day anyway.
2. Look for hole in the wall hidden gems for meals instead of popular tourist traps. But there’s a balance here.
3. Last and most importantly, plan my travel around flight deals vs the other way around.
We just spent a week in NYC with kids- points for lodging and flights, cash for activities. To reduce food costs, we used the TooGoodToGo app a few times- picked up bagels or pastries in the evening for the next mornings breakfast. Even had a couple nights that we just grabbed random entree bags walking back to our hotel when the kids were tired as an easy dinner in.
Food was generally good quality and packed well as these restaurants use the service regularly.
Same as always, everything with points, which i have way more of from spending being higher on my cards so my vacations aren't any more expensive than before, it's actually cheaper usually than my BAU COL
I have not been able to keep travel costs down. I am trying to be more diligent and putting all of my spend doing this year on new credit cards to get sign-up bonuses. I’m expecting to get three or four sign up bonuses this year. In the past, I only apply for one new credit card.
