I think the end is signaled more by what Doesn’t happen than what does. You don’t get the job. The interview. The meeting invite. The brief. The higher rate. The invitation to speak. The end doesn’t feel any different, really, and you don’t suddenly come to it. Imperceptibly, inexorably, the end finds you. And eventually you realize you’re outside not understanding why you can’t get back in.
Turning 41 on Monday. And keep trying to think of what plan B will be. So glad we are still in quarantine so I don’t have to celebrate it. Ha
My end wasn’t near at all. Was thriving but a vulture type person was gunning for my job and literally made up huge lies to HR about me multiple times until I got fired. Now I can’t find my way back in.
That’s awesome Wunderman! I’m in a smaller market so basically working on my freelance remote biz which is doing pretty, well since I have a great network from the brands I’ve worked with. My backstabber, get this... quit a month later when she discovered she couldn’t do even a quarter of my job. So agency lost out double. I don’t feel bad for them. They didn’t protect me and knew it was BS. Head of HR got fired after all this happened. Crazy situation.
Kudos to you on your career achievements! Please take time to look into being a landlord though. I did it for 4 years and if the real estate taxes are high and the rent market is low, it could be years before you are able to make a profit. I would think with your creative and advertising experience, you would be able to stay put for awhile. My advice would be to invest in stocks and 401K; the stock market is bound to go up, and if you invest in dividend stocks and reinvest your dividends, you can build a nice nest egg.
PS1- thank you. I just learned about Bigger Pockets thanks to the finance bowl on here. Haven’t dug in though. I didn’t know they had a podcast too. Fun!
Fellow ladies/ creatives over 40 that were kicked out of creative. What did the end feel like. Did you know it was coming. I do feel redundant every now and then. And often feel like I am holding the job partially cause I deserve it but partially there aren’t that many women of color in leadership roles in creative.
What if fear weren’t the driving factor? What would you want to do? If you look at the majority of what society says about where you “should be” you’d never be where you were. Follow your inner guidance and you’ll always be exactly where you’re meant to be.
