We just had a mandatory team-building event that involved a scavenger hunt, a trust fall, and some improv games. I’m 31, I manage a six-figure book of business, and I’m not sure how pretending to be a tree with Susan from Procurement helps us collaborate better. I like my coworkers just fine, but these forced bonding sessions feel more like performance art than actual connection. I’d rather get out an hour early and grab a real drink with someone. Does anyone find these kinds of events actually useful? And is it okay to push back on them?

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.
