It’s not about hours, IMO. It’s about I’m on too many deals so have 3 8-hour projects that all need to happen in the next 8 hours. It doesn’t matter how much sleep I sacrifice in that scenario, someone’s going to be disappointed.
For me, it is anything above 45 billable hours/week, especially since I am on too many deals/matters occurring at the same time with competing deadlines. Just like C1 above, no matter what I do, someone is going to be disappointed.
I like this. They are making plenty of money on me at 45 hours and I don’t want underwater to mean every waking moment (70+ billed). But some people can just work more if they want.
It’s whatever you want it to mean. Whenever you don’t want to work anymore you are underwater. You don’t need permission from others to set your own limit.
For me, 70-100 hours/week is underwater, 50-60 is at capacity, and in the 40s or less I’m bored and looking for work
AA2 - I totally agree with you and people with shady billing ethics annoy me so much because I’ve actually, truly billed several 100 hour weeks before where I was actually working for all those house. It’s always when there are major things happening in 3 or 4 of my matters all at the same time, and I’m barely sleeping/eating and not doing anything besides work. People shouldn’t be sitting around doing nothing waiting for comments (your example), billing it, and calling it a busy week lol
I think you’re definitely underwater if you’re on track to hit north of 2400 by the year end.
