Manipulative colleagues who will throw you under the bus .
Unnecessary drama among colleagues; we’re NOT junior high students anymore. Administrators who are 20 years younger who have taught in the classroom only for 4 years and make drastic changes as if they know what they’re doing. And oh ya, and if my student data doesn’t show that 80% of students are on level by spring so we have to be the target team again and are under the microscope during PLC’s.
Micromanagement by political groups. I don’t want it, the kids don’t want it, the profession doesn’t need it. We are driving more good teachers, and those who would be good teachers, away on top of the low pay. “Teaching” and/or “teacher” have become politically loaded words and respect for our profession has dropped precipitously.
I’m most afraid of politics and the future of this profession due to those politicians. In my state our political leaders are very much attacking public education and trying to shape education to meet their political needs. Drama among colleagues is another thing that I really dread going back to.
Endangered species not being helped to survive… Coastal erosion, climate change deniers, Loss of biodiversity, invasive species, wanna-be Trump fascist governor, ignorant population, anti-anything nonwhite, anti-LGBTQ, constant negative news cycle, depressing peek at what prez. DeS would bring if he could learn how to con as well as the rest of his party. Oops! Didn’t mean to get political, but you did ask. 😎
One of my students being hurt by another when admin won't do anything to remove the dangerous students.
I am always most afraid of school shootings and always feel at a loss in how to protect from them fully. Beyond that, the effects of the loss of affirmative action.
Having a class this year with as many behavioral problems as last year. BTW-admin did NOTHING, except criticize me.
Sleep deprivation. We begin @ 6:36 am, and my commute is 40 minutes each way. 😭 It’s a well established fact that teenagers (and I) need their sleep in order to function well. First period is usually a dead zone. 😴 Why start so early? Because we have a bus driver shortage & other transportation issues. Fifth largest school district in the nation. 😳
Please tell me this is a typo. Your school start @ 6:36?? Why??!!
I am afraid 😱 of students saying a teacher made them cry and the teacher is actually terminated!!
School shootings, heavy accountability on teachers for students behavior and test scores.
I’m not scared of anything. If I were scared of anything at my job, I would quit and find a new career.
🤢 Colorado is a lovely 🥰 green state despite any arrogance of its inhabitants! 🤮
Hmm where to start? School tensions between co workers due to lack of leadership, the future of education due to all of the bureaucracy, the politics that are insane for public education, and the security of these children in this crazy world.
I fear school shootings the most right now.
That I will have enough money after this year for retirement. Right now, I know I’m going to be okay, but it’s always a fear in the back of my head.
Enthusiast
This is me. I keep saying one more year … just in case! Ugh- I need to just bite the bullet. Lol
School shootings. I love my students but I value my life more and don’t think I would rush to protect them over saving my own life. Anyone who says that should be a teacher’s responsibility is delusional.
I'm most concerned that we won't have hardly any teachers in 10 years unless things change drastically. There's already a mass exodus of people leaving the profession and there are very few young people wanting to become teachers. For the country collectively, I'm afraid of what the end result will be for how our young people will be educated. Selfishly, I worry that whatever change occurs will cause a collapse of the pension system and I'll end up old and broke.
The other fear is a school shooting. We have a very open campus. There is nothing to prevent someone from walking on our campus. It's hot here, CA, and we have no air conditioning so windows and doors to classrooms and the main office are always wide open. I feel like it's more of a "when" than an "if" situation 😔
