I think you should just do what makes your work outs more effective. There are no rules to these things. If you're having more sustained energy throughout your workout when you have that banana, then go ahead and continue doing that. The difference between a fasted and non fasted workout isn't that much for you to ponder over it, in my humble opinion.
Fasting messed up my hormones. I work out much better if I eat a balanced small meal beforehand.

Personal preference. Calories are calories. I personally don’t do resistance training on an empty stomach; I think of it as fuel for the workout.
