I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Guys there’s this boot camp that I came across that trains people to get jobs in Top consulting firms and has a fee plan wherein you pay once you get placed. I just wanted to know if someone here has any experience with this ?

I'd imagine consulting in general is not *particularly elite for a software developer
*Edited to fix
I don’t like the grammar/phrasing but I still agree with the message
Cognizant
Not for software engineering. You’d do well sticking to the traditional ones like FAAMNG. Unless your goal isn’t to be a SWE but an actual consultant using your knowledge base. But even then MBB is primarily strategy, not implementation
MBB are starting to take on implementation work. Mck/BCG have decent developer jobs, but we are not elite (not sure what Bain is doing here). You will be paid better, treated better, and more marketable at big tech.
Incidentally, BCG has a wonderful design house (MAYA), but that isn't really what you're asking.
I guess I’m thinking/asking more in terms of exit opportunities to big tech. I’ve had Amazon reach out but unfortunately didn’t do well in the interview... I haven’t had any other big tech or even mid tech companies reach out though. This was all before Covid so all bets are off now
