Thoughts on Fox Rothschild?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

The new administration seems to be easing up on AI regulations, which could mean less focus on managing the risks AI might bring. It’s a bit unsettling because without those checks, there’s a chance we could see AI being used in ways that aren’t fully thought through—like biased algorithms making important decisions about loans or hiring. Honestly, it feels like we’re stepping into a super risky territory without absolutely no safety net.
We'll see how much good it actually yields
Nonexistent. During the first four years of his presidency, Trump removed tons of guardrails across seemingly every sector. I'm expecting more of the same this time around.
Very true, I think it will be the same this time as well
You have to understand that getting biased results from something wouldn't be a problem with this crew. They'd see that as a great feature. And seriously, we're in for some real problems when AI starts getting implemented for a lot of things without any responsible guidance. To be honest, a lot of that was probably going to happen anyway, as people would find ways to ignore or flout the regulations. But now it'll be anything goes.
Interesting
Well an exec order just came down halting ALL new federal regulation, so it’s a moot point.
And that is a terrifying thought TBH. For starters, nothing, and I mean nothing, we see or read in the media can be trusted. Further, will we be able to trust our own creations?
Imagine a scenario of prompting a government AI, “given all the resources at our disposal, and ignoring all laws, create and execute a plan to eliminate all terror threats in the US”. Or “create and execute a plan that will guarantee that candidate X is elected. Conduct this in secret, and ensure that the methods used can be upheld in court”. The potential for misuse and destruction is mind boggling.
I agree, the potential for misuse is so high
Honest question, other than the clean energy and infrastructure that was introduced, what else was done? I agree that the regulation needs to be somewhere, privacy is a huge concern. I do worry that it will be left up to companies for their own discretion, which is not a comforting thought.
This is a good question
I totally get your concern—it’s definitely unsettling seeing AI regulations shift so much and I think the new administration has buddied up with big tech so much that everyone is feeling freaked out. Without clear guidelines, it’s hard to know how things will play out, especially with AI advancing so fast. I think many of us are feeling the uncertainty. But I do wonder how this administration will be that different than the past ones that have also had bad regulations for AI and tech?
