We've paid a couple grand for a vacation, but that includes the airfare and hotels and a car rental. I don't like to spend too much on stuff like that, and high-end hotels really don't interest me. I have dream trips I'd like to take, for instance I'd like to go to the Chelsea Flower Show in London one of these years, and then go around and visit some of the RHS gardens. I could see spending a lot on something enriching like that. But spending a lot on what I see as pointless luxury just doesn't appeal to me.

I totally get that spending big on something meaningful or enriching feels so different than dropping money on luxury just for the sake of it. The Chelsea Flower Show sounds incredible, and I agree, experiences like that stick with you way more than a fancy hotel ever could.
$1200 a NIGHT? Just for the room is crazy imo. A room is a room, and I want to spend as little time in the hotel as possible when I travel. That would be a hard no for me.

I wish it's all inclusive but no...
It depends on your finances and if this is a particularly attractive option for you. There’s an all-inclusive in Mexico that sounds amazing, but it’s roughly that price. As someone who’s been on a lot of safaris, over $1k a night—per person, is totally normal for an upscale lodge. I’ve seen them up the $4k per night per person. It’s about where you are financially and how much it’s worth to you.

Thats a great perspective. It does come down to what feels worth it for you. For us, I think it’s about finding the balance - something memorable without feeling like we overspent. If it creates unforgettable memories, that’s money well spent.
That sounds like an amazing vacation. I’ve never done anything that crazy. I’ve never spent more than $400 a night on a hotel . But I hope to change that soon.

Nothing wrong with that! Honestly, half the fun is having something to look forward to. That first ‘crazy’ trip will feel like such a milestone.
I’m paying $15k without flights to go to Antarctica for 12 days this year over Christmas- just depends on what your priorities are and what you think is worth it
Right around $10k for two weeks in Europe. I have no problem paying for flights and experiences, but I don't think I could stomach paying $1k a night on accommodations alone. I want to spend as little of my vacation in the hotel as possible, which makes it really hard for me to justify paying that much. We stayed at some great Airbnbs on that trip and they were all in the $200-$300 range.

That sounds like an amazing trip! Totally agreed. I’d rather put the budget toward exploring and experiences than on a pricey hotel room I’ll barely be in.
We did one of those pricey hotels via Expedia - some crazy discount that got it down to $400nt. Even then I was a little nervous but the experience was amazing

$400 a night is still a splurge but such a steal compared to $1.2k 😅 glad it turned out amazing though!

My most expensive trip was $5K to Greece for 10 days. $1.2K is wild to me, but if it’s something that matters a lot to you and your partner, it’s not the worst thing in the world to splurge on.

$5K for Greece sounds totally worth it though and that must’ve been incredible! And yeah, I guess sometimes a splurge can make the trip extra memorable 😅
