Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
I was just offered a CUNY role. The title is Higher Education Assistant. According to Glassdoor, the average annual pay for that role is $83,418. However, I was offered $62,500. I requested for the minimum annual salary to be 75k. Does anyone have experience navigating the CUNY system and their pay?

There are a lot of laws around salary transparency and not requiring candidates to disclose current salary - any chance you or the job are in one of those locations?
Even if not, I would put your desired salary range in both fields. If asked, just calmly explain that your current salary isn't relevant but you based on the market you believe [desired range] is reasonable.
Thanks so much, I'll give it a go!
There are lots of suggestions out there. The problem is most companies are different and their recruiting practices are all over the place.
I've seen recommendations to enter 999999 if you're required to enter a number. I usually enter "negotiable."
The ability to filter out candidates by salary likely isn't someplace you want to work, as they're not concerned about getting the best and the brightest, just someone who can get the job done at the most affordable price.
Over the past 6-7 years I've had dozens of interviews and every company that wanted to take me deeper into the hiring process balked at the salary negotiation stage. I was $5k apart from one after I gave up more than they came up.
Another position I was a shoo-in until I discovered they (hiring manager and HR) revealed they didn't have a budget allocated for the position. A week later, on vacation, I had a salary discussion where I gave my salary range - which I researched the industry ranges for the 3 different jobs this one position encompassed (Marketing is fun that way). It was in line with the industry, and slightly lower than national averages for the roles. Nope, they pulled the job and posted a lower-level position at $50k range the next day.
The salary game is outdated and it's not giving employers the best matches, or employees the best opportunities.

I’d put range if it lets. And negotiable.

Oh that’s sneaky of them.

Just be cooperative and put down a realistic number. Playing coy or evasive just encourages them to skip you for someone who is easier to work with. This job market is not favorable to job seekers…don’t give them reasons to overlook you.
But my current salary isn't "a realistic number", right? It's either true or it isn't. Whatever you put in, people will draw conclusions from, whether that's accurate or not.

For current salary I would 100% leave blank or put n/a. For desired salary I would put will advise.
Most of the major consultancies are asking for it unfortunately, otherwise I'd absolutely be taking that advice!
I’d put in the amount you want in both fields or even your low end on one and optimal in the other. I would never disclose my actual salary because that’s not relevant or helpful.
Is there not a risk though that this comes over as deliberately lying on your application? It would be infuriating to be passed over because of that when the goal isn't dishonesty, it's just trying to get through an absurd system.
