Typical old uncle quote. Let me guess, you had to climb a mountain to go to school and how you raised yourself ?

No. Just saying we were ok being bored, we played with a stick or a ball when friends were not around. And did not constantly hound parents on what to do.
Kids in this era are no different - you can tell them to go read a book or color or run around. It’s what I did as a kid, it’s what I tell my kids to do - I was bored too but I didn’t expect my parents to solve boredom for me.
A kid not entertained is not the end of the world.
That’s because in the 80-90s our parents took the time to give us their attention, today’s parents are more concerned about their personal time so they find it easier to shove a tablet/smartphone in their kids faces, the constant craving for entertainment starts there
When we were kids the TV was in one place, today’s kids expected the tablet/smartphone all the time everywhere
Loool idk about that. My friends and I used to ride our bikes for hours and came home once it got dark. Like Stranger Things style. And my parents were totally chill with it. Good times 😂
I feel this so much with our 5 yo. Boredom is essential for creativity so it's not perfect yet for us but we try to have quiet reading time or quiet play time. We have never done screen time but yes, given how exhausted we feel after 5 days of playing jenga with work, home stuff and caregiving, we do like some time to refresh over weekend, and that usually includes all of us reading our own stuff. My son has ADHD so we usually have a back up legos for him to build and then what he does do well is to mash up kits and come up with own weird creativity! But somedays, I feel OP. It's like he wants non stop engagement and I am no child development expert but I feel my son needs more attention when he is exhausted, hungry or coming down with some kind of sickness!
