No uproar over cab here? Thoughts?

A1 - I agree with chaos it’s going to create but what you are highlighting are execution issues not legislative issues..

There is another side as well we need to think as country..There are other means of citizenship in India.. CAB is only meant to target minorities under threat in neighboring nations which happens to be predominantly Muslim (except China)...Government hasn’t cancelled other routes for citizenship for Muslim so to call CAB anti Muslim is wrong...

Even US has GC category for people seeking Asylum Based on Persecution for Your Religion... guess what there are Shikh people (Khalsa group) taking benefit of this as well..

As far as NRC is concern - it failed bcz of government only? We as Indian lack a sense of citizenship and benefits of having government issued IDs.. for example.. Since how many years we have been trying to get ADDHAR CARD?I know people in this group will jump over.. how about Passport? Till date most of the population looks at it like they only need it if they travel aboard.. May be it’s time to look at it as necessary citizenship document.. what about birth certificate? Same story you only need it to prove your age to get admission in school or to get married? Voters card- oh I don’t vote so I don’t need one...

Previous government never thought of basic rights of people.. make them aware of the benefits of citizenship? May be it wasn’t there priority as they never saw the challenges coming in future I.e to feed people, to provide medical benefits to citizens..to limit illegal immigrants.. higher terrorist activities and what not

We as a citizen and population of India need to own our actions as well and do our bit.. it’s time to stop dreaming that there will be one person in the government who will take care of corruption, terrorism, healthcare, cleanliness, provide free education, good infrastructure.. remember every single time citizen expect certain things to live nicely in a country there is an associated action from citizen

If you care about Muslim being targeted do one small thing when you are in India (assuming you are living abroad).. please reach out to any minority struggling ( because of any legit issues like language barrier or illiteracy) to get documents from government office and help them to get documents for whatever stuff they want to (house permit, school admission for their children ) do I’m not talking about citizenship..

We take Uber or Lyft. No need for an uproar over it. It’s people’s choice.

My thoughts: no one has clearly read or understood the bill. All the protests are clubbed together which is incorrect . Protest in Delhi is for entirely different reason than Assam. My apprehension is in implementation. There is opportunity for mass corruption.

NRC and CAB are two different concepts. However, nrc was used as background for implementing cab. People are protesting for two reasons : 1. Discrimination 2. For the indigenous tribes being overrun with this bill. The bill itself has a few threads. 1. Any illegal immigrant in india barring a Muslim , before 2014 will be awarded citizenship. The muslims will be termed foreigners. There are talks of a detention camp. Unsure of that factor. 2. Any religiously persecuted minority in those three countries can come and see citizenship in the country. The problem is the bill itself creates a huge divide and also adds to the already communal feeling of us vs them ( indigenous tribes vs in this case bengalis) . That has been goong on for decades. This will fuel that fire. I undertsand how indigenous tribes want to protect their identity but it is unfair to throw people who couldnt prove their legal status in the country via papers to detention camps or to another country. Will this create a subset of indian Rohingya refugees ? Probably. Will this cause more death and unrest and persecution? In all.probability yes. Has this created a them vs us feeling? Yes. I do understand the burden of illegal immigrants so the government should take a strict stance to stop any and every form of illegal.immigration. however citing culture as a reason is close to dangerously being xenophobic as excluding muslims is. It is a SOE topic for a lot of people and in different ways. Weirdly, we stand with each other and yet face against the other in this scenario. Unsure if my explanation helped but you may want to read up more on the assam bengal riots. You may also want to know that this has continued since the 18th century. While assam cites it as tolerance, it is intolerance too. The refugees who came to the country during and before partition are indians. They shouldn't be called refugees because a certain British officer decided to draw a border on the map. The issue is not as simple but I also think when indigenous tribes create a furore over letting outsiders in, their furore is more about not wanting to open up to the world. Culture can be forwarded and grown hand in hand rather than taking a protective stance. Just my two cents. Not taking a liberal or non liberal view about the bill. It's just what I think. At the end of the day we are against CAB, even though our reasons might be slightly geared towards an us vs them attitude.

A lot of lives are lost when politics plays a dirty hand. We are a melting pot of cultures and religions. Sad to see the country playing puppet to a divide and rule game again

The overall design is bad, this bill is fall out of NRC where many Hindu’s / Non Muslims didn’t qualify and BJP’s NorthEast leadership was unhappy so Mota Bhai came up with CAB and also to finally win West Bengal. (In the bill look at the cutoff date for qualifying).

Remember there are detention camps are already being put in place (as per TOI, other reported).

Party in Power says that both NRC and CAB are separate but they are not, especially when there is a nationwide NRC going to happy soon as HM said in Parliament, many people who will not be able to provide certain docs and are Muslim... where they will go, just think. Also think how our government systems work this has spread fear mongering at best

How are muslims being discriminated? I dont understand the outcry
